About Us:

Former City Manager Roy Lane had a vision. He saw the then overlooked neighborhood of Hampton Heights as an asset to the City of Spartanburg.  With the help of a handful of Hampton Heights residents, he helped form the Preservation Trust of Spartanburg to revitalize and restore this historic neighborhood.

The Trust was established in 1998 as a nonprofit organization with funding from the Mary Black Foundation, the Spartanburg County Foundation, the Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation and the City of Spartanburg.

The Trust's mission Preserving Historic Spartanburg promotes the restoration and revitalization of Spartanburg's locally designated historic districts and properties. Since its inception, the Trust has restored homes, increased homeownership and created greater community awareness of historic preservation.

In 1983, Hampton Heights, a neighborhood in downtown Spartanburg, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and in 1998, it was designated as a local historic district.

The Preservation Trust of Spartanburg is currently working in Hampton Heights on several homes. For more information on the city of Spartanburg, visit www.cityofspartanburg.org and the Spartanburg Visitors and Convention Bureau www.visitspartanburg.com.
